Beginning and Intermediate Silk Painting
Saturday, February 20, 10 am-2 pm
Instructor: Blythe Whiteley

Materials fee: $15

Class Description
Create two small silk scarves using textural and Serti silk painting (gutta resist) techniques.  The class will cover different types of silk dyes and stretchers, textural and gutta resist surface design techniques, and setting up a simple home steamer.

Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving

Class Description
Learn basic inkle weaving: how to read a pattern, warp the inkle loom, and weave a length of material that can be used to make a belt, strap, or whatever your imagination desires.

Living on the Edge: A Series of Knitting Workshops

Class Description
Learn to make beautiful knitted edgings to enhance home or fashion items.  Each independent session will cover a different edging.

Color Mixing Using Procion Dyes
Saturday, March 27, 9:30 am-1:30 pm

Class Description
We will work with Procion dye to make a reference book for custom mixing colors to dye fabric.  We will make a personal color wheel, gradation scale, and learn to use color principals to achieve harmonious colors. Mixing dyes is different from mixing paints.  Dye safety will be emphasized.

Beginning Rug Hooking
Saturday, March 27, 10 am-noon

Plus $60 materials fee

Class Description
Learn the basic skills of rug hooking—how to create the picture and how to finish a piece—and create a small wall hanging.  All supplies except an embroidery hoop are included in the materials fee.

Getting On and Off the Train: Knitting Cast-On’s and Bind-Off’s 
Tuesday, April 6 OR Tuesday, July 27,

Class Description
This workshop will introduce a variety of Cast On’s and Bind Offs including a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each.  Knowing the appropriate method for your project and being able to execute it properly will help you achieve more than just satisfactory results.

Seams Good to Me Knitting Workshop

Class Description
Learn seaming techniques to finish a garment.  The class will cover the mattress stitch on garter stitch and stockinette, using a crochet hook to seam stockinette, and 3-needle bind-off.

Hand-Painted Silk Gift/Wine Bags Class

Painting a Sun Hat Workshop

Class Description
Paint a collapsible cotton sun hat in an inspiring garden setting.  Brush painting, heliographic printing, and salt techniques will be demonstrated.  An organic “u-pick” salad lunch is included!

Color for Quilters

Class Description
Come to a better understanding of the effective use of color in quilts through examples and hands-on color exercises.  Understanding the universal art harmonies and the effects of color will help you with this challenging step of the quilt making process.  The class is based on the required book, “Color and Cloth,” and has homework.

Hand Painting Yarn and Fiber 
Saturday, June 26, 10 am-3 pm

Class Description
This class will cover the basics of chemical dyes and making a beautiful variegated yarn or spinning fiber.  We will work with
color schemes and discuss how to get the effect you might
want from a photograph, magazine picture, or some colors
you have in mind to use.

Spinning Basics or Beyond
Saturday, July 10, 10 am-2 pm
Instructor: Lynnae McConaha

Class Description
We will discuss the basics of the spinning wheel.  Beginning spinners will learn fiber preparation, different spinning techniques and how to make the fuzz into yarn.  More experienced spinners will learn to make a consistently even yarn and we can also go into novelty techniques if we get that far!

Knitted Tea Cozy Workshop
Saturday, July 31, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Cost: $20 (Member)/$25(Nonmember)
Plus $3 materials fee

Class Description
Design a one-of-a-kind tea cozy to fit your teapot, whether short or stout.  Simple math will be involved but everyone will get it!  The class also includes some of Sandra’s favorite tea food recipes, how to brew a proper pot of tea, and a scientific study demonstrating the value of using a tea cozy!
