Sharing fiber art skills with all members of our community, is integral to the mission of SWFAC. Through outreach programs we introduce and foster art expression to area youth, teach skills that can earn income to developmentally disabled adults, and promote intergenerational teaching and sharing of fiber art skills.
Our programs include:
Volunteers meet once a week to teach knitting to six clients of Life Quest, a program for people with developmental disabilities. Their knitted items are sold at The Common Thread at no commission, providing a source of income.
Youth in the community can participate in the week-long fiber camp offered each June. Each day, a different fiber art is taught.
Elementary school children learn knitting in this intergenerational program.
Collaborating with this Santa Clara non-profit allows us to share fiber art with the youth participating in their summer camp.
A fiber arts project for youth is available at our booth each year. This event is held at Penny Park.
If you would like to participate in one of our outreach programs, please email Charmeine.
